Freelance career

Ronan is an Australian travel journalist and photographer with 20 years' experience, a regular contributor to National Geographic and authored a travel column for National Geographic Magazine. Based in Perth, Australia, he writes and shoots for major media outlets across the world, with his work having taken taken him to more than 60 countries.

He’s contributed stories and photography to   National Geographic, CNN,   BBCForbesTravel + Leisure, Conde Nast Traveler, The Guardian The New York Post, The Independent,    The Telegraph, The Sunday Times, The San Francisco Chronicle, The Toronto Star,  WIRED,   MSN, The South China Morning Post,  The Singapore Straits Times,  Fodor’s Travel, Atlas Obscura, The Irish Examiner,  The Australian Financial Review,  The Sun, The Daily Telegraph,  The Herald Sun,  The National newspaper,  American Airlines magazine,  United Airlines magazine,    Emirates magazine,  Singapore Airlines magazine etc.

Newspaper career:

In 2003, Ronan completed a journalism degree at Murdoch University in Perth and then worked as a journalist for 9 years at daily newspapers in Australia, including 7 years at The West Australian, one of the country's biggest newspapers.

During his newspaper career Ronan held the roles of chief crime reporter, political writer, health reporter and features writer.

Personal:

Born to Irish parents who immigrated to Australia, Ronan grew up in a working-class area of Perth, attended Government schools, and paid his own way through university.

After his newspaper career, he spent 10 years living between Ireland and Thailand, while travelling the globe for work, but has now returned to Perth.

Ronan is surrounded by three wonderful women - wife, mother and sister - and acts the fool with his son and brother.

He is consumed by sport, having spent 25 years playing competitive cricket, basketball and Australian football, but recently retired from team sports to fixate on golf.
